Acute Injuries |
 |
While most of the problems I treat involve chronic pain, there is also a role for Prolotherapy in the treatment of acute injuries, particularly sports injuries. In competitive athletes, healing can be accelerated, and ultimate healing enhanced, by Prolotherapy. This can be the difference between getting ‘back in the game’ rapidly, at full capacity, and having to deal with pain, loss of performance, and frequent reinjury. Many weekend warriors become weakened warriors due to a nagging, recurring pain or injury.

The use of Prolotherapy for athletic purposes goes back to ancient Greece, where Hippocrates used a red-hot needle to treat damaged shoulders in javelin throwers. This treatment not only returned injured people to competition, it enhanced their performance. Our methods have come a long way, but the goal remains the same. Electron microscopic studies of ligament tissue made in response to Prolotherapy shows extremely high-quality tissue being produced. A number of professional, and high-level amateur athletes rely on Prolotherapy to keep them competitive. Dr. Ross Hauser authored a book on Prolotherapy for sports injuries, which is highly recommended and may be obtained from his website, CaringMedical.com.
Nothing is 100% effective in curing joint problems. But Prolotherapy is 80% effective in curing joint pain and instability. It is important that people understand the role that Prolotherapy can play in their healing.
